CARTERTON
FOOTBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) About 30 members of the Carterton Football Club assembled at the Fire Brigade Station for the annual meeting, which was presided over by the president, Mr A. E. Reid. Apologies for absence were received from several members including Messrs J. Blake (patron) and K. H. Reid. The annual report showed that the club had had another' successful season on the field. The balance sheet showed a loss on the year’s operations. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Four new members were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. Blake; president, Mr C. Gray; vice-presidents, the same as last season, with the addition of Mr A. E. Reid; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. M. Kiddie; club captain, Mr L. Berry; delegates to the Wairarapa Rugby Union, Messrs C. Gray, K. Reid and G. Udy; management committee, Messrs G. Steft'ert, J. Steffert, K. Reid, W. A. Hart, N. McPhee, and J. Fitzgerald; auditor, Mr H. A. McPhee. The appointment of coaches, and the number of teams to be nominated was held over until after the Rugby Union meeting. Mr A. Reid presented Seaman N. Jensen, who has joined the navy, with a tobacco pouch. Votes of thanks and appreciation were passed to the retiring president (Mr A. E. Reid) for his services during the past four years and to Mr H. J. McKenzie, who resigned from the committee, and who had carried out the duties of hon. secretary since the death of the secretary. The new management committee will meet on Thursday evening. ENGAGEMENT SAYER—GEORGE. The engagement is announced of Marie Elizabeth, second daughter of Mr and Mrs R. P. George, Hilton Road, Carterton, to Victor Vincent, youngest son of Mr and Mrs R. B. Sayer, Dalefield. WEDDING STARK—HART. The marriage took place at the Salvation Army Hall, Carterton, at the weekend of Elsie Lillian, third daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H. Hart, of Taylor Street, and Robert Donald, youngest son of Mr and Mrs W. Start, Lincoln Road, Carterton. The officiating minister was Captain Harewood, of Wellington. The bride, who was escorted by her, brother-in-law, Mr G. Clark, wore a dress of white satin. The bridesmaids were Miss Myrtle Hart (chief), and Miss Betty Stark, both being attired in becoming dresses of blue and pink taffeta. Lieutenant N. Stark was best man and Mr A. Blandford groomsman. After the ceremony the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her small niece. The ■wedding breakfast was held in the Salvation Army Hall, where a large number of relatives and friends were entertained. The usual toasts were honoured. Later in the afternoon Mr and Mrs Stark left on a short honeymoon, travelling south by car, the bride’s costume being navy blue, with accessories to match. Mr and Mrs Stark have since taken up their residence in Lincoln Road, Carterton.
Interesting Souvenirs. ( In a window at the Carterton branch of the W.F.C.A. are displayed souvenirs of the present war sent by Pte. Ray McCann to his wife in Carterton. They consist of two one cent Ceylon coins, a piastre, German hat badge bearing the German eagle and swastika, an Italian bronze medal with ribbon attached, a swastika from a German flag, and a religious badge on a small purse, to which the Italian colours, red, white and green, are attached. Personal Items. Miss Betty Sewell, of Anderson Road, Carterton, has received a cable message from Pte. Niel Jensen, who is serving overseas, that he is fit and Well. „ n f Aircraftman George Sewell, oi Christchurch, is home on sick leave from the Wigram Aerodrome. Golf Club. The annual meeting of members of the Carterton Golf Club will be held on Thursday, April 9, in the P. and A. Society’s building at 8 p.m. The election of officers will take place and other important business will be transacted. Women’s Division Party. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a card tourney on Easter Saturday, when eight good prizes will be allotted. The proceeds will go toward the parcels for soldiers overseas fund. A feature will be made of the supper. Bonds for Bombers. There still is a demand for Bonds for Bombers at the Carterton Post Office. The total for Monday and Tuesday amounted to £762, bringing, the amount subscribed up to the vicinity of £6OOO. REGENT THEATRE “TARGET FOR TONIGHT.” There will be an exceptionally good double programme tonight—“ Target for Tonight” (a thrilling story of air operations) and “Crooks Tour (a splendid comedy-drama, with Naunton Wayne and ‘feasil Radford in the chief roles).
