+ .. RED CROSS SOCIETY SUB-CENTRE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the PahauteaKahutara sub-centre was held at Pahautea hall. Mrs J. C. Bidwill presided over a large attendance of members. Three new members were welcomed. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mention was made of the splendid effort throughout the year of the sewr ing circle held at Mrs A. C. Pearce’s residence. Thanks were accorded to the lecturers of the five classes held during the year, 42 candidates being successful in passing their examinations in hygiene, transport and first aid. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs J. C. Bidwill; vice-presidents, Mesdames D. C. Collins and A. C. Pearce; secretary-treas-urer, Mrs S. G. Grant; assistant secretary, Miss E. Collins; committee, Mesdames Ness, Pottinger, Playle, Pope, Ross, Farquhar, Warren and Miss P. Warrington, Messrs Collins, Rendle. Playle, Grant, Bargh, McKay and Juno; delegates to meeting of the Centre, Mesdames Collins and Bidwill.
METHODIST CHURCH HARVEST FESTIVAL. A harvest festival was held in the Methodist Church yesterday. The Rev. Knowles Smith, Greytown, was the preacher in the morning and the Rev. L. A. D. Hayman in the evening. Special harvest hymns and anthems were rendered by the choir. There was a splendid display of produce, which is to be given to the Children’s Home at Masterton, and the Greytown Hospital. Soldiers’ Dance. Another successful soldiers’ dance was held on Saturday night when there was a good crowd. The music was supplied by Mr S. Te Tau and ex- • tras were played by pipers and others. Mr F. Talbot carried out the duties of M. The junior committee was responsible for the supper arrangements. Mrs Alexander and Miss Tutbury arranged the flowers for the tables. Day of Prayer. There was a good response in connection with the King’s day of prayer, the services in all the churches throughout the day being very well attended. Personal. Mrs D. Vernon, Auckland, is spending a few days with Mrs A. R. Robbins, Pigeon Bush. COSY THEATRE WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. One of the greatest screen triumphs. “Cheers for Miss Bishop,” telling a most dramatic story, will be shown on Wednesday night. The leading roles are taken by Martha Scott, Edmund Gwenn and William Gargan.
