WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION A DOUBLE TO RED STAR CLUB. SENIOR & JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP The Wairarapa Cricket Association's championship competitions were brought to a close on Saturday. In the senior championship the only game played was between Red Star and Lansdowne at the Park, the othel match. Old Boys v College, not taking place. No junior matches were played, the championship thus going to Red Star. The Red Star seniors have won the championship fo three seasons in succession. Their win this season was all the more meritorious as many of their players joined the New Zealand forces amongst them being G. Coleman (who is a prisoner of war) lan Coleman, W. Peterson, Charlie Roys, Colin Reid. Newman Hoar I. McWhinnie (killed in action), A. Friend and Stewart Hatch. The juniors also suffered severely through the call to arms, the B team being so depleted that it had to withdraw from the competition. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP RED STAR V LANSDOWNE. FIRST INNINGS WIN FOR FORMER. Red Star won on the first innings against Lansdowne at the Masterton Park. For Red Star, Frank.. Hoar followed up his 63 against Old Boys in the previous match with an excellent 70, which included seven 4’s and a 6. E. Allen (five 4’sl, A. Bell (two 6’s and two 4’sl, A. Paterson (three 4’s) and L. Belworthy (two 4’s) also battled well for their runs, as did S. Ellis (six 4’s). K. Miller (seven 4’s), Hedley (three 4’s) and D. Groves (one 4) for Lansdowne. Linder (a member of the New Zealand forces) bowled well for Lansdowne as did Mahoney, the well known ex-Hawke’s Bay representative, and also a member of the New Zealand forces, for Red Star.
