POLICY OF ATTACK
URGED BY BRITISH WRITER HELPING RUSSIA TO SMASH HITLER. NEED OF CONCENTRATING RESOURCES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright j (ReceivedT his Day, Noon.) LONDON, March 29. Urging Britain to open a second front, Mr John Gordon, in the “Sunday Express,” says: “Britain must give up her policy of waiting. She must get in and fight. It is no longer a question of whether Britain alone has more tanks, planes and gjuns than Germany, but whether the Allies together have the strength. “Within a few weeks (Mr Gordon adds) Hitler is going to launch his great attack on Russia and he will put everything he has into the assault. He cannot smash Russia, but he must try to cripple her. It is life or death for him. Russia knows that, and that is why she is appealing to us for help. Russia is confident that she can hold Hitler, but holding him is not enough. She must smash him and open the way into Germany. To enable Russia to do that, we must take as much of the strain as we can. We must so imperil Hitler's hold on Western Europe that he will be compelled to send masses of troops from the Russian front to face us. When Hitler attacks Russia, we must —whatever the risk and however inadequate we consider our resources —get in and fight. Today Britain and Russia have more aeroplanes and guns than Germany and millions more men. Our trouble is that we disperse our strength to the ends of the earth. The more we allow Hitler to divert us to far-off battlefields and leave Germany alone, the longer This war will last and the more exhausting will it be.”
