WHATMAN SCHOOL
FAREWELL GATHERING. PRESENTATION TO MR BERRY. The members of the Whatman School Committee, together with the parents and pupils of the school, attended in strong .force at a farewell social gathering tendered to Mr O. V. Berry, who had been in charge of the school during the past four years. Major Victor Dick presided, and spoke in appreciation of Mr Berry’s services. During the evening a programme was given by the scholars of the school, the items including: ‘'New Zealand National Anthem”; song, “Silent Night,” senior girls; song, “The Dove,” junior girls; duet, Ngaire Bush and Beverley Beaver; duet, Patti Clark and June Dickason; verse speaking. scholars of Std. VI and V; piano solo, Jill Messenger; duet, Jocelyn and Jill Messenger. Mr George Wagg made a presentation of a leather case to Mr Berry and a hat box to Mrs Berry. Mr Berry in reply thanked everybody for their co-operation and help during his four years as headmaster of the Whatman School. Mr Berry will shortly leave Masterton to undertake the duties of headmaster of the Randwick School, Lower Hutt.
