AMERICAN POSITIONS IN BATAN AFTER TEMPORARY ENEMY LODGMENT. CORREGIDOR UNDAMAGED. WASHINGTON, March 29. A war communique states: “The enemy heavily attacked the right centre of the American lines on Batan Peninsula on the evening of March 28, but the American forces were only temporarily dislodged and counter-at-tacked with infantry and artillery, restoring all their positions, while the Japanese retreated, suffering heavy losses. The Japanese attack was accompanied by an air bombardment, causing slight damage. Corregidor fortress sustained air raids throughout Saturday, but no damage was done. Our artillery shelled enemy positions and also destroyed many small Japanese boats.

The Associated Press of America's Chungking correspondent reports that the bulk of the Chinese forces at Toungoo broke from the Japanese encirclement and are engaging in severe fighting in the eastern suburbs of Toungoo. Heavy fighting is also going on at other points on the Ran-goon-Mandalay railroad. WAR MATERIALS ' LARGE QAUNTITIES REMOVED FROM MALAYA. CONCERTED ALLIED ACTION. WASHINGTON, March 28. It is officially disclosed that the United Nations removed substantial amounts of tin, rubber and tungsten from Malaya and from the Netherlands East Indies before the Japanese occupation. The operations were carried out under joint supervision. ATTACK ON SIBERIA JAPANESE PREPARATIONS. REPORTED BY CHUNGKING SPOKESMAN. / NEW YORK, March 29. A Chungking spokesman said that the Japanese are preparing a twopronged drive against Siberia, probably from north Manchukuo and Mongolia, with a simultaneous attack on Vladivostock from the air and sea. He added that the most recent information showed that the Japanese have concentrated 33 divisions, or 500,000 men, in Manchukuo.
