GREYTOWN

WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon, when Mrs Beu presided over a fair attendance of members. Members stood in silence for a few moments in sympathy with Mrs Duff who had suffered a bereavement. Mrs Beu said that she was sorry to learn that Mrs Horton had found it necessary to enter the Greycwn Hospital and hoped that she would have a speedy recovery. A letter was received from Mr A. G. Nisbet, secretary of the Returned Services’ Association, thanking members for the offer to provide luncheon for soldiers and their wives and families, on Anzac Day. A sum of £5 was donated to the Housekeeping Community Chest and a contribution of £2 2s to the Rest Home at Awapuni. A levy of Is 6d each is to be paid by all members at the next meeting. Used stamps were received from Mesdames Benseman and Stringfellow. Mrs A. Clarke, of Featherston, judged a queen cake competition. The winners were: Mrs W. Hutchings 1, Mrs Benseman 2, Mrs W. Hutchings 3. A roll call competition was won by Mrs T. Orr. The hostesses were Mesdames E. Richards, F. Bunny, D. Ingley and A. Johnson.

Red Cross Society. The Greytown branch of the New Zealand Red Cross Society held hygiene and sanitation examinations last evening in the Plunket Rooms. Personal Items. The Mayoress, Mrs A. W. Horton, is at present in the Greytown Hospital. Mrs Bradshaw has returned to Greytown from a visit to Napier. The many friends of Mrs W. J. Knell will be pleased to know that she is improving in health since her recent illness. Miss M. Duff has returned to Greytown from a holiday spent in Palmerston North. Camouflage Nets. Work in connection with the making of camouflage nets in Greytown is proceeding satisfactorily but as the need for these is very urgent more workers are required. Another set of nets will shortly be started at the Methodist' Sunday School under the supervision of the Girl Guide Committee. Those willing to help in this work are asked to forward their names to Miss Isobel Wiggins, secretary. TOWN HALL A SPLENDID DRAMA. The exceptionally good picture, “Four Sons,” starring Mary Beth Hughes . and Don Ameche, and “The Return of Daniel Boone,” a sensational story, will be shown tonight.
