One million respirators are to be distributed among the civilian population of New South Wales, said Mr Heffron, Minister of National Emergency Services, in a review of the Emergency Services organisation. Mr Heffron added that it had a strength of 70,000 in New South Wales. The Fire Commissioners will recruit 2,00 reservists and the Women’s Auxiliary 3,000. Mobile surgical units will be established in'vulnerable areas, and in a raid doctors will be able to perform operations on the spot.
