BONDS FOR BOMBERS
NEW ZEALAND CAAIPAIGN SPLENDID RESPONSE BY PUBLIC. HALF MILLION MARK NEARLY REACHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Nearly half a million pounds in half a week! This was the Bonds for Bombers campaign result up to last night. The three days’ total is £483.705, with two of yesterday’s returns not to hand. These two are estimated to produce £6OOO in all. The districts raised these sums yesterday: Auckland, £81,474; Wellington, £21,257; Christchurch, £29,036; Dunedin, £7525; Hamilton, £17,735; Timaru, £4619; Thames, £5412; Westport, £856; Invercargill, £11,425; Wanganui, £13,241; New Plymouth, £7259; Napier. £11.808; Palmerston North, £13,500: Nelson, £5450; Gisborne, £4103; Blenheim, £2966: Greymouth and Oamaru returns had not been received last night.
WAIRARAPA ACTIVITIES.
The results for three days in the Wairarapa arc: Masterton, £4880; Pahiatua, £5284; Featherston, £1072; Carterton, £503; Eketahuna, £401; Martinborough, £242; Grey town, £42. Total' for main Wairarapa centres, £12,424. MASTERTON SALES. THREE DAYS’ TOTAL £4BBO. Sales of Bonds for Bombers in Masterton yesterday totalled 276, for a value of £2310. This makes the total for three days £4BBO. Good as these figures are, it is pointed out that, all the same, they do not compare very favourably with sales in some other centres. Pahiatua, for instance, has a total of £5284, and has set out to raise £lO,OOO. The hope is expressed that Masterton’s total will be substantially increased before the end of the week.
