His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, left Wellington for Auckland last evening. Corporal Cyril Bicknell Smith, of Masterton, who was wounded in both legs in Libya in November last, is now reported to have been discharged from hospital. Lieut,-Colonel A. A. Grace, one of the foremost authorities on Maori mythology and author of many books, has died in Nelson at the age of 74. The death has occurred at Palmerston North of Mrs Agnes W. Hankins, aged 92. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr Samuel Wemys Dalrymple, Caithness, Scotland. Mrs Hankins went with her husband to Foxton, and in 1882 to Palmerston North. Her husband died three years ago.
The death took place at his residence in Lower Hutt on Tuesday of Mr William Edward Bock, director of the firm of W. R. Boek and Son, general engineers and die sinkers. Born in Wellington in 1878, Mr Bock entered his father's firm in 1893, and, on his father's death in 1932. he became director when the business was formed into a company. Failing health compelled him to retire four years ago.
The death of Mr J. J. Johnston Reich, which occurred yesterday, removes a well-known figure from business circles in Wellington. Born at Glamis, Scotland, 78 years ago. he came to New Zealand at the age of 18 and joined the first party to survey the Waimai’ino block, but later left surveying to engage in business. For some "20 years he was employed by the firm of Joseph Nathan and Co., and later became chairman of directors of the Union Clothing Co., Wellington Trust and Loan Co., Scoullar Co., Ltd., and W. Littlejohn and Son, Ltd. In his youthful days, Mr Reich was a prominent Rugby footballer, and played for the Wellington representative fifteen in 1888 and 1889.
