CARTERTON
ORDER OF DRUIDS MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Totara Lodge No. 3, United Ancient Order of Druids, met last night, Arch Druid Bro. H. Matson presiding. The Director-General of Health enquired under what scheme the lodge was providing for medical attention to members. It was resolved to advise the Director-General that the lodge was still working under the original agreement with the doctors. The secretary read the annual return supplied to the Government which showed that the sum of £513 6s 2d had been paid to members in sick pay for the year 1941. During the period, four members and two members’ wives had died. The year had closed with 230 financial benefit members on the roll. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £3O 0s lOd, were passed for payment. Although next lodge meeting will fall on Easter Monday it will be held as usual. It was resolved that the annual ball be abandoned this year.
WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers, there being present Mrs H. E. Ordish (in the chair), Miss O. W. Wolters and Mrs F. L. Barr (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames W. H. Hall and A. F. Pink. It was reported that the making of camouflage nets was progressing satisfactorily. Mrs Stubbs had given the use of her shop for this purpose and an instructress will be in attendance every afternoon this week. It was announced that Mr E. Smith had consented to conduct a signallingclass. The secretary of the W.W.S.A. will be glad to receive the names of all who are interested. The president reported that the Cycling Corps girls had distributed posters in connection with the “Bonds, for Bombers” campaign. Law and Order Unit. Constable F. J. Williams presided over a meeting of the Law and Order Committee last evening. There were also present: Messrs A. T. Murray, C. A. Chennells, D. H. Jensen and C. J. DeLacey (secretary). The chairman reported having arranged for the use of a motor car in case of emergency. It was resolved that drill be held on Tuesday, March 31. Camouflage Nets. Good progress is being made by members of various women's institutions in the making of camouflage nets for war purposes. There is still room for many more workers in the building lent for the purpose by Mrs A. F. Stubbs. Personal Items. Master Peter Nilson, of Rhodes Street, Carterton, who underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Masterton Hospital on Monday night is progressing satisfactorily. Sgt. Pilot C. C. Deller, of Carterton. who has seen service overseas, has temporarily returned to the Dominion. 1 Burglar at Work. A local shop was broken into in the early part of the week. An entrance was made through a back window but further progress was frustrated by a barred door. Bomber Bonds. The Bonds for Bombers appeal so far has not been fully responded to. On Monday £B9 5s was realised and yesterday £B2 ss. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME. A picture packed with romance and humour, “That Uncertain Feeling,” will be shown tonight. Merle Oberon and Melvyn Douglas have the leading roles.
