PILOT SAVED FROM BURNING PLANE. AWARD OF EMPIRE MEDAL. (B'^Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) T LONDON, March 24. Sergeant James Irvine, R.N.Z.A.F., has been awarded the British Empire Medal. When his machine crashed and burst into flames he was catapulted through the roof but, though suffering from the effects of his experience, rushed back to the burning machine and saved the pilot’s life by dragging him clear. Aged 20, Sergeant Irvine, who was formerly a grocer, comes from Mt. Albert, Auckland.
