The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, left Auckland for Wellington yesterday afternoon. He will return to Auckland tomorrow morning. Mrs and Miss Dymock, Wanganui, are staying with Miss Langdon, Larchbank, Tinui. The Hon F. Jones, Minister of Defence, visited Palmerston North yesterday.

Mrs Ashdown and family. Cole Street, Master ton, have returned from a visit to Eastbourne.

The Hon R. 'Semple, Minister of National Service, will return to Wellington from Christchurch today. Miss McKenzie, Khandallah, is staying with her sister, Mrs R. L. McLaren, Roberts Road, Lansdowne. The death occurred at Dannevirke yesterday of Mrs Mary Margaret Armstrong, wife of Mr Francis Armstrong, of Akitio.

At Pahiatua yesterday the death occurred of Mrs Ellen Thompson, relict of George Thompson, of Kohinui, at the age of 73 years. Miss M. England. New Zealand secretary of the Free Kindergarten Union, is the guest of Mrs C. J. Williams, 29 Masters Crescent, Masterton. Mrs E. A. McCann, Villa Street, Masterton, has received a cable stating that her husband, Sapper E, A. McCann, is safe and well in the Middle East.

. Mr A. J. Curtis and Sir Charles Norwood were elected life members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce at the annual meeting of the chamber last night. The friends of Mrs Roy Jensen, of Perry Street, Masterton, will regret to learn that she has had to enter the Masterton hospital to undergo an operation.

The following Masterton air personnel have arrived in the Dominion from the Far East, and are at present on short leave:—Pilot Officers B. J. Kelleher, J. Coom. Sergeant Pilot R. A. Weber, C. C. Deller, and C. Armitage, of Mataura, and formerly of Masterton.

Mr A. W. Mulligan, who will retire on March 31, after 43 years in the public Service, received two presentations at a gathering representative of several branches of the Public Service, held in Parliament House. Wellington, yesterday. The Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr Parry, presided. Mr Mulligan has been appointed assistant manager of the Waitangi eState under the Waitangi Trust Board.
