ELECTRIC POWER

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. SATISFACTORY FINANCIAL POSITION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The revenue in February, Mr G. Brown (secretary-manager) reported at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, showed a satisfactory increase on the corresponding month of last year and also exceeded the estimate. So far this quarter the peak was well below the load on which the estimate was based. The position in the installation department remained very much the same. The board was understaffed and difficulty was experienced in meeting consumers’ requirements. The number of consumers was now 6312 as compared with 6195 twelve months ago. The turnover in the trading department had been well maintained. Expenditure so far this year on construction, reconstruction and other work amounted to £7486 15s 2d. The financial position continued satisfactory. Mr H. B. Keenan, chief engineer, in his report, stated that construction of the Masterton duplicate feeder was proceeding. All street lights controlled by the board in the Wairarapa had been shrouded. Extensive alterations were being made to the switch gear at the Waingawa sub-station. A scheme had been prepared whereby emergency hospitals in the Wairarapa could be given an emergency supply.
