WATER FOR FIRES
POSITION AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL. AN UNFAVOURABLE REPORT. The attention of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was drawn, at yesterday's meeting, to the inadequacy of the water supply at the Masterton Hospital, owing to the condition of the board’s mains. After stating that the fire fighting equipment at the hospital was second to none, the superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade, Mr T. B. Clark went on to draw attention to the condition of the water main inside the board's ground, stating that it was in a very serious condition and was heavily corroded. The water available, he stated, was not adequate for fire fighting purposes and he suggested that something should be done to secure an adequate water supply before a serious catastrophe occurred. The finance committee was instructed to ascertain the cost of piping and the possibilities of concrete lining the existing mains; also of boosting up the pressure by pump.
