PERSONAL

Mr N. G. Kent, of the Pongaroa Post Office staff, has left on transfer to Wellington. Mrs E. Button, of Dixon Street, Masterton, has received cabled advise that her husband, Sapper Eddie Button, is safe and well in the Middle East.

The many friends of Miss Muriel Kent-Johnston will regret to learn of her death which occurred in Masterton on Tuesday. For the last three years Miss Kent-Johnston had resided with her brother at. 25 Third Street, Lansdowne. Her parents were old residents of the Wairarapa, her grandfather being the late Mr F. H. Wood.

The death occurred at Palmerston North yesterday of Mrs J. Price (nee Miss Maud Hutchinson), formerly of Masterton. after a long and painful illness. -She leaves a husband and young family of seven, besides her father, Mr D. Hutchinson, of Masterton, a sister and a brother. One son is serving overseas and another is in the Territorials.

On Tuesday evening a very pleasant gathering was organised at Pongarca to welcome the Rev Cook and Mrs Cook to Pongaroa, where Mr Cook has assumed charge as .the Vicar of St John’s Church. The time was enjoyably spent in games, competitions and community singing. Prior to supper, the church wardens, Messrs W. E. Davies and P. R. Kent, welcomed Mr and Mrs Cook on behalf of the parishioners and residents of the town and wished them a happy and successful stay in Pongaroa.
