HOSPITAL CONTROL
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD MEAT SUPPLY FOR MASTERTON INSTITUTION. A TENDER ACCEPTED. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held in Masterton today, the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley presiding. The offer of Messrs T. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., to supply meat to the Masterton Hospital, at scheduled rates, was accepted. “Does this end the battle of meat?” asked Mr J. F. Thompson. “It will end it for the time being.” said Mr Mawley, “until someone finds, a bit of tough meat on the dinner table.”
Mr Thompson: “I suppose we can still rely on Mrs Fletcher to act as chief scout.” The managing-secretary, Mr Norman Lee, reported that difficulty was being experienced in obtaining ambulancedrivers and that arrangements had been made for the Red Cross transport to supply ambulance drivers on shift daily from, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. It was decided to make payment at Is 3d per hour. “They are on a win all right,” said Mr F. S. H. Bolton, referring to a contract foi’ the supply of milk at Is 5d per gallon and cream at Is 9d per pint to the Greytown Hospital. He said the cream, if sold to the factory, would bring 5s 5d a gallon whereas the board was paying 14s. It was pointed out by other members that the price compared well with the prices being paid elsewhere. Special conditions were attached to the supply of milk and cream to hospitals. It was difficult to get anyone to undertake the supply to hospitals. Mrs Carroll was appointed as parttime technician in the X-ray and laboratory department.
