LANSDOWNE SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEETING. EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS. Mr J. G. McFarlane presided at a meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee held last evening. The headmaster reported inter alia, as follows: There was a steady increase in the role number, 16 new pupils being admitted during the month. Mrs Monro had been appointed to the staff in place of Mrs Haywood, who had been transferred to the Masterton West school. The annual medical inspection of pupils had been carried out during the month by Dr. Mulholland. The apple scheme had again been started. The grounds and surroundings were in first class order. Appreciation of the assistance given throughout the swimming season by Mrs Brenkley was recorded. In connection with the emergency precautions for the safety of the children during school hours, it was decided to request parents to provide each child with an identification label or disc sewn on to the clothes, and also a small first aid outfit containing bandages, cotton wool and a piece of rubber or wood. In regard to the transport of those children who reach the school by bus, it was ascertained that a bus and a driver would be available in the event of an alert at any time during school hours. The children are being drilled in emergency precautions and from trials carried out very effective results have been shown.
