GOOD SHOOTING

NAZI PLANE DESTROYED IN ARCTIC BY BRITISH MINE-SWEEPER. PROMPT AID FOR RUSSIAN SHIP. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY, March 17. An Admiralty communique states: U A Junkers 88, which was attacking a Russian merchant ship in the Arctic, has been shot down by his Majesty’s auxiliary mine-sweeper Stefa. The Junkers was attacking the Russian ship when the Stefa opened fire and hit the aircraft, which crashed into the ice and burst into flames. The action took place on Friday and the good shooting reflects great credit on the gun’s crew, since the Stefa has been at sea in severe, weather and ice for a long period. There were no casualties or damage on the Stefa.”
