DOMINION AND THE WAR

CAUTION ADVISED, \ IN CRITICISM OF EFFORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The need for the exercise of caution in embarking on criticism of the war effort was advised by the president Mr R. H. Nimmo, at last night’s meeting of the. council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Mr Nimmo said that there were three eminent men at the head of the services and men in the War Cabinet who had the confidence of the people in general. There was a wave of criticism born of anxiety and with the best of intentions, continued Mr Nimmo. but people should pause before embarking on criticism of the general war effort. He had visited a number of camps recently and wanted to say that the Government and the War Cabinet had done a fine job as far as the war effort was concerned. There might be loom for improvement, and where this could be seen, let it be pointed out in a constructive way. He wpiild_ask everyone to bear in mind' that there were in charge of the services men who had devoted their lives to defence and were

in possession of facts not known to the general public. Mr F. Wilson agreed that unless those who wished to criticise had something sound on which to base their contentions, it was better to keep quiet.
