PIRINOA
PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE PRESENTATION TO MEMBER. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the local Patriotic Committee was held on Friday evening. Mr J. Carter presided. The secretary gave a resume of the activities of the committee since its last meeting. The balance sheet submitted by the secretary was considered most satisfactory. The resignation of Mr Bird, who has left the district, was received with regret. Mr Sutton was appointed to fill the position of trustee of the Post Office Savings Account rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr Bird. The action of the secretary in paying various accounts and acknowledging with thanks donations from various residents was approved. It was decided to hold a euchre party 1 and dance during Easter. The matter of arranging the music for the dance was left in the hands of Mr S. Mclntosh. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Carter, on behalf of the committee, presented Mr Fred Busch, who is leaving for camp next week, with a money belt as a token of appreciation for the valuable services rendered by him to the committee. Mr Busch had been a member since its formation. The chairman conveyed to Mr Busch the best wishes of the committee for an enjoyable stay in camp. Mr Busch suitably replied.
Labour Shortage. Sheep farmers are finding it difficult to obtain labour for crutching operations. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Grigg are visitors to this district. Mrs J. Riwai has entered a hospital for treatment. Mr Neil Macdonald, who at one time resided here, and who was invalided home with severe injuries from the Middle East recently, has had to enter a hospital for treatment. Mr W. Hodges, Wellington, was a weekend visitor to the district. Mr Pearce, Wairoa, is staying with his brother, Mr R. Pearce, Te Pare. Mr and Mrs F. Lovegrove have left for Auckland where they will spend a fortnight’s holiday. Mr and Mrs Ingram have taken up their residence here. Mr Ingram will manage Messrs Pain and Kershaw’s local branch during Mr Lovegrove’s absence. Mr and Mrs W. Adams, former residents of the district, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Seward for a few days.
