RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL CARD PARTY. I (“Times-Age” Special.) Another successful card party was held by the Red Cross Society yesterday, Mrs Baker was the winner at cards. Competitions were won by Mrs McKenna and Miss E. Johnston. Donations of gifts were received from the following:— Mesdames H. Lawson, J. Sadler and H. Houghton. Bowling. In the final of the championship rinks competition played between rinks skipped by H. Rolls and H. RBloxam, the former won. Punter’s Luck. Two local residents who attended the Trentham races on Saturday had a somewhat remarkable experience. While sitting in the stand watching the horses parade for the first race one of them glanced down at his feet and there saw a gold ring. Picking it up he said to his mate, “some lady will be ringless today.” Then on looking at his race book he saw the name Ringless. The pair backed the horse and each received a handsome dividend. COSY THEATRE WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. The bill-of-fare on Wednesday night will be headed by Bernard Shaw’s great story, “Major Barbara,” featuring Wendy Hiller and Rex Harrison.
