GALLANT AIRMAN
PCSTHUMOUS AWARD OF D.F.C. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 13. The D.F.C. has been posthumously awarded Flight Lieutenant Russel Ernest Orchard, Christchurch. The citation, stated that the award was made “.foafegjlantry and devotion to duty in of air operations.” Flight Lieutenan Orchard, aged 21, was reported missing in September, 1941. He was born in Rangiora, educated at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch. He served in the Canterbury Regiment of the New Zealand Territorials from 1936 to 1938. He was commissioned in the R.A.F. in 1938, and promoted flight lieutenant in June, 1941.
