SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED

GATHERING AT Y.M.C.A. ROOMS. One of the happiest evenings spent by the men of the services at the Free Teas held at the Y.M.C.A. rooms on Sundays was that held last evening, when a large number of men were entertained by the ladies of the Masterton Townswomen’s Guild. The tasteful floral decorations on the tables was the work of the members of the Guild Gardening Circle. There was an abundance of appetising provisions to which full justice was done. During the -erving of tea Mrs Miller Hope kindly entertained with popular tunes at the piano. After the hostesses had been introduced by Mr Gaze, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., the newly-elected prefident of the Guild, Mrs Copp, wel.■omed the mon. A silent period of devotion was observed and followed by the company repeating the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Corporal Bates voiced thanks and appreciation io the ladies, the Y.M.C.A. nd Patriotic Fund Boards for all that vas being done in the interests of the :orvices, this being acclaimed with heers. Mrs Miller Hope accompanied the ■elections contributed by Misses Perrin nd Douglas (duets), and O’Donnell ,solos), and Mrs Keltic favoured with elocutionary items. A further half hour was enjoyed round the piano in community singing.
