WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Women s Institute was held on Friday afternoon. All members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Sergeant Pilot Hylton George, a motion of sympathy being passed to his mother, Mrs George, a member of the institute. It was decided that the committee remain the same as last year. Miss S. Napier resigned from the position of secretary, and Mrs V. Payne was elected to the post. The officers are as follow: President, Mrs Hull; vice-presidents, Mrs Weston, Mrs Algie, Mrs Clee; secretary, Mrs V. Payne; treasurer, Mrs Dickens; committee, Mesdames Algie, Clee, Weston, Dickens, Hull, G. Napier, YorralJ, S. Edmonds, V. Payne, T. Smith and Misses J. Algie and S. Napier. Members in charge of competitions, Mesdames Walker and Yorrall; Press correspondent, Mrs Dickens; hostess, Mrs S. Edmonds. The secretary read the report and balance sheet for the past year, and a vote of thanks was accorded to her. Competitions for the year resulted as follows:— Knitting, Mrs R. Low, 75pts, 1- Mrs Dickens, 32pts, 2; Mrs Hutchings, 29pts 3. Cooking, Mrs Yarrall 1; Mrs Seymour 2; Mrs G. Napier 3. Best bloom, Mrs Seymour 1; Mrs Low 2; Mrs Weston 3. Most entries for year, Mrs R. Low. Results of monthly competitions: Ginger nuts, Mrs Yarrall 1; Mrs Low 2. Knitting, mittens, Mrs Algie 1; pullover, Mrs Low. 1, Mrs Algie 2, Miss J. Algie 3; Balaclava, Mrs Dickens 2. Best bloom, Mrs Low 1, Mrs Low 2. A letter acknowledging a parcel from the Institute was received from Pte. V. Graham. Miss Beresford, of Wellington, gave a very interesting talk on saving waste paper. It was decided to place a receptacle in the hall in which to deposit waste paper. The competition for next month wifi be, a bowl of autumn leaves, and shortbread for soldiers’ parcels. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Mclean and Mrs Burch. Personal Items. i Miss B. Edmonds, of Palmerston North, spent the weekend with her parents. 1 , , , Miss Beresford has returned to Wellington after visiting friends and relatives in the district. Mrs G. Parsonson has returned to her home at Lower Hutt after having visited Mrs T. Smith. Mrs Jones, who was the guest of Mrs J. Parsonson, has returned to Lower Hutt Trooper W. Rolls spent the weekend in the district. Patriotic Games Night. The Patriotic “games night” was held on Saturday evening the winners in the euchre being: Ladies, Mrs Yarrall, Mrs Dickens and Mrs Payne, equal; men, Mr R. Low. Aggregate three successive nights: Ladies,_Mrs Yorrall and Mrs Mclean tied. Mrs Yorrall winning the draw. The trophy was donated by Mrs Clayworth. The consolation prize which was won by Mrs Johnson was given by Mr R. Se y r^ c ”? r ; The men’s aggregate prize, donated by Mrs Dickens, was won by Mr R. Low. The consolation prize which was won by Mr O. Walker was donated by Mr R, Seymour. The following goods were donated and auctioned: Cabbage from Mr G. Godinagh realised 3s 6d; cabbage from Mr E Anderson, 2s 6d; apples from Mi Harcombe, 7s; beans from Mrs Weston, 2s* crapes, marrow and. cucumbers from Mrs G. Napier, 245; cabbage plants from Mr H. Percy, ss; cabbage and potatoes from Master C. Leach, 18s lid. A pig donated for competition by Mr Clarkson realised £2 9s 6d and was won by Mrs Heckler. A goose ffiven'by Mr Clarkson brought £.l 9s 3d and was won by Mr J. McKay. The, total sum realised during the evening was £ll 6s IJd. The hostesses were Mrs Seymour and Mrs Leach and Miss Leach.
