GREYTOWN

FIRE BRIGADE MEETING CONFERENCE DELEGATES APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Fire Brigade was held last evening when Superintendent J. Wood presided over a full attendance. Deputy H. Wood was appointed delegate to the United District Conference to be held at Napier. It was decided that the Superintendent attend the U.F.B. Association Conference to be held in Wellington on March 26 and 27. Mr Trotman was appointed to complete the black-out at the fire station. Two calls were received during the month. The secretary reported the receipt of a donation from Mr R. Harris. A special practice will be held on Monday night. ORDER OF DRUIDS MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. Arch. Druid Bro. H. Matson presided over the meeting of Totara Lodge No. 3, U.A.O.D. last night. Prior to opening business the Arch. Druid made reference to the death of the father of Bro. R. N. Nunn, after which a vote of condolence with the relatives was carried in silence. Two members declared on the sick funds of the lodge and three declared off. Bro. R. N. Nunn furnished a report from the Superintendent of the Waipukurau Sanatorium stating that his condition was satisfactory and his discharge granted. The Arch. Druid presented to Bro. and Mrs H. Murrell an electric kettle as a wedding gift and expressed the good wishes of the lodge for their future happiness. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £lB 18s 2d were passed for payment, after which the lodge adjourned. BOY SCOUTS MEETING OF CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Citizens Committee of the Carterton Boy Scout Movement was held last evening, Mis M. E. Mellish presiding. The treasurer reported that he haa £5 2s' 7d in hand, the balance from card tournaments and other sources. It was resolved to furnish a room in the Scout Den for the exclusive use of the Cubs, and Messrs Morris Senr. and Junr. volunteered to do the necessary work in connection therewith. , FALL FROM WINDOW

CONTRACTOR INJURED. A man named Albert William Bradbury, agricultural contractor, and a boarder at the Club Hotel, Greytown, fell through an upstairs window about 815 o’clock last night. He was found a few minutes later by the licensee in an unconscious condition and was conveyed to the Grey town hospital This morning his condition was reported to be fair. Bride-to-be Entertained. The Masonic Hall, Holloway Street, Carterton, was the scene of a very happy gathering last evening when the many friends of Miss Lorna . Smith, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Smith, Victoria Street, was tendered a “parcel evening” in honour of her approaching marriage. The music for the dancing was provided by Messrs Tom Udy and D Irwin, much appreciated extras were played by Misses Verna Irwin and Verna Sorensen. At an appropriate interval in the evening’s proceedings, Mr Don. Irwin referred to the approaching marriage of the guest of the evening and asked her to accept and open the many gift parcels, which she did amid applause. On behalf of his daughter, Mr R. Smith returned thanks for the pleasant gathering and for the beautiful gifts. Mr Alan Joyce, of Wellington, thanked those present for their kindness to his fiancee. The marriage of Miss Smith will take place next Saturday.

Personal Items. Mr J. Montgomerie, of Wellington, is the guest of Mr J. E. Montgomerie, Cross Line. Mr and Mrs G. Ingley and family, of Lower Hutt, were weekend visitors to Greytown. A painful accident was suffered by W. Hannah, a youth employed at the “Wairarapa News” Office. He was feeding a printing machine when he caught his hand in the machinery. Part of a finger on his right hand had to be amputated. Bowling. The Carterton four (Harris, Barber, Hart and Sorensen) visited Greytown last evening to play for the Centre

Fours Badges. The holders (Brunton, Dennes, McLeod,' and Higgison) proved a hard proposition and retained the honours by a good margin. TOWN HALL TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. “Another Dawn,” an outstanding drama, will be shown tonight. Errol Flynn and Kay Francis are featured in the leading roles. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults).
