SOVIET ATTACKS

ALONG WHOLE EASTERN FRONT Capture of Enemy Fortified Points FIERCE ONSLAUGHT IN UKRAINE GERMANS ADMIT BEING HARD PRESSED LONDON, Marell !). The Russians are attacking all along the Eastern and in the past 24 hours have recaptured 30 localities. Slowly but surely the Germans are being forced to surrender one fortified strong point after another. Around Leningrad 2,500 Germans had been killed in the last three days. The ring of Russian steel is being drawn tighter round the encircled 16th German Army. Enemy counter-attacks cost the lives of 500 Germans and the loss of two localities. In the Kalinin sector the Russians have recaptured nine places and are still advancing. Several hundred Germans have been killed and much booty captured. In the Smolensk area the Soviet forces have captured a further 19 localities. In the Ukraine a fierce attack has been launched by the Russians, who are still advancing after breaking strong resistance by the enemy. Berlin admits that Soviet forces have penetrated the German positions. In the Donetz area the Russians are still advancing and the Germans admit that they are being hard pressed.
