EKETAHUNA

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The secondary department of the Eketahuna District High School held its swimming sports on Thursday afternoon, the organisation being in the hands of Mr D. R. Salter. Despite the chilliness of the water, the children entered keenly for the championship events which resulted in Doreen Utting and Keith Doney being proclaimed girl and boy champion respectively. The runner-up in the girls’ section was Jill Hart with Joyce Tolley very close. Richard Rogers was runner-up in the boys’ division. The beginners’ race was won by Eric Curtis with Alec Golder second, and Hetty Winter third. The life saving race was won by Cora Davie and Doreen Utting, with Joyce Tolley and Jill Hart second, and John Dawson and Colin Houlbrooke third. Personal, The death occurred recently in Wellington of Mr «lonn M. Wilson, who has been for many years manager of the stationery department of C. M. Banks Ltd. Mr Wilson was an elder of St. John’s Presbyterian Church. A largely attended service, conducted by the Rev. Gladstone Hughes, was held in St. John’s Church prior to the funeral. Relatives present included Mi’ H. F. Wilson and Miss Margaret Wilson, of Palmerston North, and Miss C. M. Wilson, of Eketahuna.
