The Rev. J. Newlands, Winton, has been appointed Moderator of the Southland Presbytery for the next six months. Mr R. P. H. Hcwat. Invercargill, has been awarded the New Zealand University's Senior Scholarship in Law for 1942. The death occurred on Saturday of Dr. Ivan Norman Speckling, who had been in practice in Mosgiel for 30 years. He served in the Great War in the N.Z.M.C. with the rank of captain and was mentioned in dispatches. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Born on the banks of the Waitotara River 107 years ago, Mrs Ngarongo Kauika, a member of the Ngatimaru tribe, has died in Waitotara Valley Mrs Kauika lived in the district all her life and for the past 12 years had been blind. She is survived by five sons and two daughters, the eldest daughter being nearly 80. The death has occurred of Mr David Walter Dunlop, former secretary of the Auckland Education Board, aged 64, reports a Press Association message. Mr Dunlop was born and educated at Thames. He was school teaching in the Auckland district till 1918, when he was appointed advisory inspector, and later also supervisor of manual and technical instruction. He was appointed secretary to the board in 1928 and retired on July 31, 1941. At the annual district conference of Manchester Unity Odd Fellows held in Wellington on Saturday, the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—District G.M., Bro W. R. Forbes; district auditor-book examiner, Bro J. Shewan; assistant auditor, Bro J. W. Russell; arbitration committee, Bro W. B. Brown, A. C. Blair, C. J. De Lacey (Carterton), S. V. Gooding (Masterton) and K. Cropp.
