MATAHIWI
SETTLERS FAREWELLED AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable time was spent last evening when the residents of Matahiwi tendered a social farewell gathering to Mr and Mrs J. Linton, who are leaving the district. Mr F. Clarke, on behalf of the residents, stated that they regretted very much the departure of Mr and Mrs Linton from the district and asked them to accept a leather suit case as a token of the high esteem in which they were held. Mr Linton, who has been manager of Mrs Holmes’s property at Matahiwi, suitably replied. The time was spent in card playing and dancing. The prizes at cards were won by Miss Ngaire Clarke and Mr W. R. Mitchell. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Te Tau. Musical items were given by Miss Joan Evans and Mr L. Trass. Mr F. Hawkless was an efficient M.C. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district.
