SOLDIERS’ COMFORTS SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY, (“Times-Age” Special.) A very successful shop day was held on Thursday by the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts’ Committee. The stall was well patronised and donations of money, cakes and vegetables were much appreciated by the committee. The proceeds are in aid of the soldiers’ parcels fund. The winners of the competitions were:—Sheep, donated by Mr H. Higginson, Mr H. E. Greathead; dinner goose, donated by Mrs E. McAnulty, Mr C. Boustead. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. At the annual meeting of members of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute the new committee was elected as follows: —Mesdames D. Fraser (president), C. Farrow, R. Farrow, Duncan, Sturgeon and Ure, Misses Mitchell and Hooper. Delegates were nominated to attend the annual council meeting at Mangatainoka on April 28. The monthly competitions were held and the prizes were awarded as follows: —Premier bloom: Mrs Sturgeon 1 and 2, Mrs Fraser 3. Three carrots: Miss Hooper 1 and 2, Mrs Oliver 3. Article from a 251 b. flour bag: Mrs Eaucke 1 and 3, Mrs Fraser 2. Mrs Coulter, of Woodville, spoke on the work of Women’s Institutes and gave many suggestions in regard to improving Institute meetings. The hostesses were Mesdames Baucke and Hart. Personal Items. Deep sympathy will be extended to Mrs J. Goggin in the loss of her grandson, Edward Maxwell, who lost his life in an air accident in Auckland. Deceased was a nephew of Mrs F. H. Baucke and Mr F. M. Goggin, Rongokokako. Miss Leslie, Dunholm Convalescent Home, Auckland, who has been on a visit to her uncle, Mr G. Leslie, Hastwell Street, has returned home. Mrs Herrick, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs S. Malton, Rongokokako. Mrs Morris, Masterton, and Mrs Coulter, Woodville, are visiting Mrs A. Faulker, Kaipororo. Mrs Dufflll Senr., Wellington, is visiting her son, Mr W. Dufflll, Alfredton Road. The name of Private Arthur Evans, Rongomai, is in the prisoner of war list. He left with the First Echelon.
