MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Mauriceville Women's Institute was held at the residence of the president, Miss R. Mortensen, who presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames H. Myers, Senr., McWhirter and Jackson. The annual report and balance sheet, which were favourably commented upon, were adopted. The president pointed out the necessity for members to work together for the benefit of the objects of the Institute. The organisation should be made one big machine with every part doing its own important job. The members had worked together harmoniously during the past year. She predicted that a similar desirable state of affairs would exist in the coming year. Mrs Geo Nielsen reported, on the Executive Committee’s work over the past twelve months. Mrs J. A. Baine furnished a comprehensive report concerning the dispatch of soldiers’ parcels overseas. Miss J. Larsen presented the president with a spray of flowers. Sprays were presented by the president to Mesdames Geo. Wilson, J. A. Baine, O. Nikolaison, J. L. McArley and C. Clarke for special services rendered throughout the year. Mrs Stack, Mauriceville West, was welcomed as a new member. The election of officers in connection with which Mesdames Pink and McDougall were tellers, resulted as follows:—President, Miss R. Mortensen; vice-president, Mrs O. Nikolaison; secretary, Mrs I. D. Cameron; treasurer, Mrs J. L. McArley; committee Mesdames Broadbent, Baine, C. Clarke, Wilson, Nielsen and Miss J. Larsen. The best bloom competition resulted as follows: —Mrs Broadbent 1, Mrs I. D. Cameron 2, Mrs G. Nielsen 3. The bring-and-buy stall was a worthy effort, and members are asked to make next month’s bring-and-buy a still greater success. Afternoon tea was served and the president was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her hospitality.
