WAIRARAPA R.S.A.
CHANGE OF NAME APPROVED NOW RETURNED SERVICES ASSOCIATION. MR B. J. JACOBS GUEST OF EVENING. A general meeting of members of the Wairarapa R.S.A. was held last evening to consider a resolution changing the name from the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association to the Wairarapa Returned Services’ Association. The Masonic Hall was filled to capacity. there being present upwards of 250 members. The assembly also included visitors from the Eketahuna R.S.A. A motion to alter the name of the association to conform with a resolution unanimously adopted at the recent Dominion Council meeting of the R.S.A. was carried unanimously. The guest of the evening was Mr B. J. Jacobs, of Palmerston North, Dominion vice-president of the New Zealand R.S.A. Mr Jacobs, who has been president of the Palmerston North R.S.A. since 1919 and a member of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand R.S.A. for 20 years, was given an enthusiastic reception. In the course of his address he referred to the part played in the life of the New Zealand R.S.A. by headquarters and also touched upon recent rehabilitation legislation. At the conclusion of Mr Jacobs’s address a social evening followed. Barnes's Orchestra played several items and Mr R. G. Gilbert contributed vocal numbers. Mr A. Miller Hope was the accompanist. Supper was served. On his arrival in Masterton Mr Jacobs was entertained at dinner at the Empire Hotel by members of the committee of the Wairarapa R.S.A.
