BOWLING CLUB SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP. (“Times-Age” Special.) 11l the semi-final of the singles championship of the Carterton Bowling Club between Sorensen and Martin, the former won by 22/11. The final game between Sorensen and Larsen . which was played last night provided an exciting finish. In the early part of the game Sorensen got a break on his opponent but Larsen gradually overhauled him. In the last few ends Sorensen won by 18/16. A game for the progressive pairs between G. Steven and Barber (s) and E. Clarke and Hughan (s) was won by the former, 23/16. OBITUARY MR ROBERT WILLIAM NUNN. The late Mr Robert William Nunn,' who died at the Greytown Hospital, was born in Great Wilbrahan, Cambridgeshire, England, and arrived in Wellington when he was 22 years of age. He had resided in the Dominion for sixty years. In his early years he followed the life of a seafaring man, and later came to the Wairarapa. He took up farming at Waihakeke where he lived for a time. He sold the property and purchased another at Longbush. After many years residence in that district he sold out and came to Carterton, living in retirement. While at Longbush he was instrumental in starting a dairy factory which operated for some years. The late Mr Nunn was a member of the school committees at Waihakeke and Longbush. He leaves six sons and three daughters. The sons are: Messrs John, Pukio, Featherston; Albert, Waipawa; William, Waikaremoana; James, Gladstone; Richard, Gladstone, and Robert Nunn, East Taratahi. The daughters are: Mesdames F. Rzoska, Horopito; J. Laygor, New Plymouth, and Hamilton, New Plymouth. The funeral will leave St. Mark’s Church, Carterton, tomorrow, after a service commencing at 11 a.m. for the Clareville Cemetery. BOY SCOUTS CARD TOURNAMENT. The weekly, card tournament in connection with the Boy Scouts was held in the band room last evening. There was a fair attendance, and the prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Page 1, Mrs Herdman 2. Men: Mr K. Hodder 1, Mr R. Milton 2. Comforts Fund, A rumour is prevalent that owing to a weekly dance being held for the armed forces, the card party that has been conducted by Mrs H. Hodder will be abandoned. This is not correct, and the parties will be carried on to provide woollen comforts for soldiers and the Merchant Navy. Soldiers’ Dance. The Y.M.C.A. and Carterton Citizens’ Committee has decided to hold a dance in the State Theatre, Holloway Street, every Saturday evening commencing at 7.30 o’clock. Women’s Division Flower Show. The autumn flower show of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union will be held in the Masonic Hall, Carterton, tomorrow (Friday), commencing at 1 o’clock. Theer will be a bring and buy stall, the funds from which will be devoted to the Division’s Rest Room. Afternoon tea for a charge of 6d will be available. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. The programme tonight is headed by the sensational picture, “The Devil Commands,” which is recommended by the Censor for adults, and in which the | leading roles are taken by Boris Karloff and Richard Fiske. The associate feature is “Public Deb. No. 1,” an outstanding offering featuring George Murphy and Brenda Joyce.
