SIR R. BROOKE-POPHAM

DEFENDED IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. ' ‘‘SCURRILOUS ATTACKS” DENOUNCED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 12.25 p.m.) LONDON. March 4. Wing Commander James referred in the House of Commons to “scurrilous attacks” on Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert Brooke-Popham, formerly Com-mander-in-Chief in the Far East. Wing Commander James said: “As far as I have been able to ascertain, there are no grounds whatever for the aspersions cast on Sir Robert Brooke-Popham. There is already too much tendency for politicians to shelter behind senior officers of the Services.” _ Sir Archibald Sinclair (Air Minister) said he deeply resented any implication against the honour of Sir Robert Brooke-Popham. who was an exceedingly gallant officer and had rendered fine service to the country.
