ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS WAIRARAPA PAST GRAND LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Wairarapa Past Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows was held in Carterton last evening, P.G. Sister M, E. Mellish presiding. Only Carterton members were present owing lo petrol restrictions. The annual balance sheet which had been audited and found correct, was submitted showing a credit balance at the Bank.
Accounts amounting to £4 17s Id were passed for payment. It was resolved that the next meeting be held at Masterton early in May. SCHOOL PICNIC SPORTS AT WAIHAKEKE. The annual picnic in connection with .the Waihakeke State School was held on Mr Alf. Tinsley’s property on Saturday last in beautiful weather. There was a large gathering of children, parents and friends and a most enjoyable time was spent. Personal. Miss M. Grant, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. S .Grant. Carterton, has left tc take up duties at the air headquarters in Wellington. Last evening, at the Dalefield Dairy Co.’s building, there was a large gathering of citizens to bid farewell to Mr Jack Brown, who will leave Carterton on Friday for Auckland to join up with the Fleet Air Arm. The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) presided, and on behalf ol the citizens of Carterton asked Mt Brown to accept a fountain pen and pencil. On behalf of the Carterton Football Club, Mr E. McKenzie asked Mr Brown to accept a money belt from his clubmates. He apologised for the absence of the president of the club. Mr A. E. Reid. Mr J. Lawrence referred to the splendid persona] qualities of Mr Brown, and to the manner in which he had assisted many sports bodies. Mr Brown suitably replied. During the progress of the Waihakeke school picnic the opportunity was taken to express appreciation of the long and faithful service given to the school by two residents, Messrs W. Renall and C. Jensen, senr., who had held office over a period of 29 years as chairman and treasurer, respectively. In making the presentation of a pair of slippers to Messrs Renall and Jensen, and a box of beautiful blooms to Mesdames Renall and Jensen, Mr W. Campin, junr., referred to the interest both committeemen had taken in school affairs over a long period. They had done excellent work, and everyone was sorry that they had retired from active participation in school matters. Both recipients suitably returned thanks. The death occurred in the Greytown hospital yesterday of Mr Robert William Nunn, a well known resident of the Carterton district, at the age of 81 years. Homa Guard. I The officers and n.c.o.’s of the South Wairarapa Battalion of the Home Guard have completed a four days’ special course of instruction at Greytown, extending over Saturday afternoon, all day Sunday and Monday and Tuesday nights. The course comprised field exercises and patrol work. The transport for B Coy. n.c.o.’s from Carterton was provided by Mr Ben Sewell, who lent one of his buses free of charge. The advanced training was most instructive and should benefit the members very much. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. A particularly fine drama, ‘‘Four Sons,” featuring Don Ameche and Mary Beth Hughes, will be shown tonight. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults).
