ST. ANDREW SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Saint Andrew Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall last night when the Chief, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas, presided over a good attendance of members. In presenting his report, Mr Mackenzie Douglas expressed the hope that, although there had been some reduction in the number of financial members, the enthusiastic support of the remaining members should contribute towards a highly successful season. He proffered the thanks of the Society to all who had assisted during the year; to Mrs J. Y. Douglas and Mr Alex. Cruickshank whose dance music was much appreciated, the Ladies’ Choir, the Pipe Band, the Chief’s Piper, Mr T. Pickett, the ladies in the catering department at the gatherings, those who assisted in raising funds for the Pipe Band, the Wairarapa “TimesAge,” and the hon. auditor, Mr Robt. Milne. The annual report was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr Hugh Morrison, J.P.; Chief, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas; chieftain, Mr P. McLaren; chieftainess, Mrs Robt. Miller; treasurer, Mr P. G. Ramsay; councillors, Misses C. Francis and R. Robinson, Messrs Alex. Cruickshank, J. Y. Douglas, Allan Graham, Wm. C. Mann, J. McDonald and M. Walker. It was decided to hold the first gathering on Saturday, March 21, and gatherings thereafter on the first Saturday in every month from May onwards.

The annual report stated, inter alia: While war conditions have resulted in. some reduction in the number of financial members, the Society can congratulate itself on a continuance of the attainment of its objects during the past season. It is felt that, at times like the present, the Society’s efforts should by no means be relaxed, and it is hoped, with the enthusiastic support of members, that the coming season will prove a highly successful one. A number of subscriptions are unfortunately still outstanding; even a state of war should not affect the payment of a subscription so small. The Pipe Band has given valuable assistance to the Masterton Battalion of the Home Guard. Many of our younger members are at present on active service. These were elected hon. members.
