The German military authorities in Paris have announced that twenty “Communists and Jews” will be shot, as reprisal for the murder of a German sentry yesterday, and that twenty more will be shot if the murderers are not discovered before March 16. The sentry’s funeral will take place tomorrow, when theatres, cinemas and pleasure resorts are shutting down for the day and /restaurants are closing at 8 p.m. It is reported from Vichy that the Minister of the Interior, M. Pucheux, firstly detailing a widespread movement of resistance in France, said that in the past seven months there had been 230 attacks against Germans, including organised raids by dynamite bomb parties, resulting in 12,500 raids by the authorities and 5,390 arrests.
