SETTLERS FAREWELLED
MR AND MRS R. ELLIOTT. On Saturday evening Ngahape and Stronvar residents met at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Paku for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs R. Elliott and family who will shortly leave the district. Friends from Masterton and Westmere were also present. The time was spent in dancing and the ladies of the district provided supper. During the evening Mr H. Summers, cn behalf of the residents, presented Mrs Elliott with a handsome clock. Mr Elliott received a roll of notes and Miss Maire Elliott a work basket. Mr O. L. Sykes, on behalf of “Old Diggers,” presented Mr Elliott with a cigarette holder and case. Mr H. Summers referred to the sterling personal qualities of the departing family, and thanked them for their service to the district and the settlers during the past twenty-one years. He wished them good health and prosperity in their new home. Other speakers endorsed these sentiments. Mr H. Filer supplied the music for dancing, and Mr G. Master acted as M.C.
