NEW ZEALAND WOMEN
WAR WORK IN LONDON BROADCAST BY MRS JORDAN. HOSPITABLE TREATMENT OF OVERSEA TROOPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.50, a.m.) LONDON, February 25. Mrs W. J. Jordan (wife of the New Zealand High Commissioner) broadcasting to the women of New Zealand said: “British housewives, despite ratioping, always have a meal to offer to men from overseas. It is grand to see the way in which women in British homes entertain Service men from overseas. Housekeeping is most interesting here now. Many things are scarce, but we make do with what there is. The ordinary cookery book is useless and a new one might well be written. Cookery instructions about using butter, sugar and eggs cause smiles in Britain. It is all like a dream, but no one complains.” After describing New Zealand women’s war work in London, Mrs Joidan added: “We try to maintain the New Zealand family feeling here and look forward to the time when we shall all be home again.”
