An enthusiastic welcome by a large gathering was given the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall when they arrived at Stratford yesterday on their first official visit. A civic reception was held yesterday afternoon and last night. Sir Cyril Newall inspected a parade of the W.W.S.A., Home Guard, and E.P.S. He and Lady Newall left for Hawera this morning. Miss M. McKillop, Wellington, is spending a few days in Masterton. Mrs Gladstone, who has been visiting Masterton, has returned to Wellington.
Mrs G. Arison, Karori, is the guest of Mrs T. C. H. Miller, Renall Street, Masterton.
Mrs Middlebrook, of Ormondville, is staying with her mother, Mrs Dillon, Church Street, Masterton. Miss J. McLaren and Miss Thompson, Renall Street, Masterton, have returned home from a visit to Paekakariki.
Miss M. Hodges, who has been the guest of Mrs H. G. Alexander, Pownall Street, Masterton, has returned to Otaki.
Mr A. O. Glasse, chief engineer of the Auckland Electric Power Board, will succeed Mr M. C. Henderson, Dunedin, as president of the New Zealand Institute of Engineers. Mr B. J. Jacobs, Dominion vice-pre-sident of the New Zealand R.S.A., will visit Masterton next Wednesday. He will be the guest of the Wairarapa R.S.A. at a gathering to be held in the evening.
The personnel of the Rehabilitation Board was announced last evening by the Prime Minister, Mi’ Fraser. The board will consist of Mr Michael Moohan, the deputy-chairman of the National Rehabilitation Council, who, as the Act provides will be chairman of the board, and the following five members appointed by the Governor-Gen-eral: Messrs Bernard Carl Ashwin (Secretary to the Treasury); Claude Wilfred Batten, Wellington; Edward Luttrell Cullen, M.P., Hawke's Bay; Stewart William Gaspar, Dunedin; and Henry Tai Mitchell, Rotorua. Secretary, Mr David Cormack Sclater, Wellington.
