BOROUGH AFFAIRS
CARTERTON COUNCIL BUSINESS AT LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Carterun Borough Council last night was presided over by the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner. There were also present: Hrs. E. McKenzie, W. A. Hart, H. Morenson, L. M. Clarke, C. J. DeLacey, -Toward E. Jackson, Miss O. W. Wolers and W. R. Harry. The treasurer’s statement showed a :redit balance at the bank of £2522 14s d. In the gasworks account there was i credit of £432 8s 9d. The following decisions were arrived .t on matters contained in the works ommittee’s report:—lt was decided that the foreman complete the footpath and road in Pembroke Street before commencing other tarring works, and that the footpath on the north-eastern end of Belvedere Street, near the Furnishing Co.’s premises, be consolidated and tarred. A committee, consisting ol the Mayor, Crs. McKenzie, Mortenson and Harry, was set up, and is to be known as the Moreton Road Reserve Committee. When tenders are called for the lease of Moreton Road Reserve, one of the conditions ol tender should provide that the highest or any tender be not necessarily accepted, and that the successful tenderer supply the Council with a profit and loss balancesheet of each year's operations, that the rent be payable by an order on a dairy factory cheque spread over a full season, rates and insurance to be included in the payments. It was decided that the military be asked to place pickets on the eastern end of the swimming baths while soldiers were using the baths. 1 Cr. H. E. Jackson referred to the bad I state of the footpath on the eastern side of Kent Street, and moved that the overseer make an inspection and report at the next meeting of the Council. The motion was carried. The matter of refuse being placed by the military in the Brooklyn Road pit was brought up, and councillors stated that they were not satisfied that it was being dealt with satisfactorily. It was resolved that the clerk draw the attention of the military authorities to the matter. It was resolved that the present lessee of the Moreton Road property be given notice to repair the fences. It was decided that tenders be called for repairs to the dwelling house on the Moreton Road property, and that the works committee draw up specifications for the work required before the next Council meeting. Tenders are to be called for the painting of the gas manager’s house, and are to close on March 10.
