POWER BOARD MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr P. Davies presided at the monthly meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board, there being also present Messrs P. Page, L. Johnson, S. J. Judd, E. W. Cheetham, T. Fouhy, J. G. Brechin, J. B. Carruthers and C. T. Richardson. An apology for absence was received from Mr A. W. Bisset. The chairman extended a warm welcome to Mr Judd, who had been appointed by the Pahiatua Borough Council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr S. K. Siddells. Mr Page submitted a report dealing with accident insurance for board members, and accident and sickness insurance for the engineer-manager and secretary-treasurer. The secretary reported that he had obtained a license to enable Power Board members to travel to meetings, four to occupy one car. It was unanimously decided that a suggestion that the single meter rate for domestic consumers be 7d for the first 10 units, 3Jd for the next 20 units with the balance at Id per unit be adopted, and that the permission of the Price Investigation Tribunal be obtained to bring this rate into operation.
It was reported that at the end of January this year there was a credit balance in the bank at Eketahuna of £469 18s Id, but after allowing for cash to bank £62 5s 6d and unpresented cheques £894 17s. there is a debit balance of £362 13s 5d left. At the Pahiatua bank the credit balance
was £45 8s 5d with cash to bank £9l 18s lOd and unpresented cheques £25 5s 3d, making the credit balance £ll2 2s. After deducting this from the Eketahuna balance, the balance is £249 Ils sd, thereby reconciling with the book balance. During the month sums totalling £2250 were transferred from the Pahiatua bank to the Eketahuna bank, the cost of exchange being £2 16s 3d. It was stated that between this meeting and the next meeting there was no interest and principal due, but between the March and April meetings considerable sums running into four figures in each case would become payable for both purposes. It was reported that a storm that passed over Waiwera damaged several transformer fuses and a condenser in Mr Cleghorn's woolshed and two switches on Mr Parry’s range had to be replaced. A strain insulator broke down at Mr Tylee’s at Makuri. A 3,300-volt conductor broke where the i lines cross the Mangahao River and the board's thanks are due to some of the settlers who reported the location of the fault and also assisted in getting the necessary repair material across the river. Personal Items, Mrs B. Tomlinson, Pleckville, is paying a visit to Wellington. Mrs Hardwicke is visiting her. mother, Mrs E. D. Toohill, Bridge Street. Mrs Jamieson. Carterton, has been the guest of Mrs Metcalfe, Bridge Street. Mr Epps, Auckland, is the guest of his daughter, Mrs A. H. Gray, Bridge Street.
