REPORT TO NATION
ON WAR AS A WHOLE ROOSEVELT TO SPEAK TODAY. DEMAND FOR INFORMATION IN U.S.A. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, February 22. A radio address which is to be delivered on February 24 at 2 p.in. (New Zealand summer time) is expected to be one of the most important. State papers in the history o.f the United States. Unprecedented arrangements have been made to disseminate the address immediately and extensively throughout Europe, the Far East and Middle East by short wave. The speech is eagerly awaited here as an indication of the extent of information which Mr Roosevelt intends to give the American people concerning the future conduct of the war.
There has been considerable criticism in the Press and also among Mi Roosevelt’s own colleagues of the present governmental policy of issuing news items without explaining them and giving them the proper proportion as regards the war as a whole. As a result. Mr Roosevelt has been urged to make frequent reports to the nation in a manner similar to Mr Churchill's occasional reports to the House of Commons on the progress of the war.
