Miss A. Brown, of Masterton, is staying at Kent House, Colombo Road. Miss E. M. Black, of Wellington, is at present staying at Kent House, Masterton.

Mr Cecil Hanley, of Napier, and formerly of Masterton, is on a visit to the town.

Mrs A. J. Cooper, Victoria Street, Masterton, is spending a holiday in Wellington. The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. The Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday afternoon. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, will return to Wellington from the south today. Miss Elizabeth Guinness, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs G. Brown, Tinui, has returned to Auckland.

The death occurred at Auckland of Mr J. F. S. Briggs, of Whangarei, after an illness extending over some months. The deceased was born in the Pahiatua district, and went north with othei’ members of the family when a young man. He commenced practice as a barrister and solicitor, and was for many years borough solicitor at Whangarei. Mr Ed. Edwards, the noted English comedian, who portrays the Widow Twankey in J. C. Williamson’s pantomime “Aladdin,” met for the first time in Auckland Miss Joan McAlpine and they are to be married at Timaru, where the company is to appeal’ on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Miss McAlpine is a young Aucklander who has been appearing during the past three years at the Tivoli Theatre, Sydney. She plays Cheekee in “Aladdin.”

The death of Mr Robert Euing McDougall is reported in a Press Association telegram from Christchurch. Mr McDougall, who was born in 1861, was sole proprietor of Aulsebrook and Co., Ltd., which he developed from a small factory to one of the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. He took an active interest in the welfare of his employees, and was a noted art patron. He presented to the city of Christchurch the McDougall Art Gallery. Mr McDougall was one of the founders of Shirley Golf Club. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs C. J. Ferrier, Mrs Griffith Bristed and Mrs Ivan Seay.
