VISITING AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND ENVOYS MESSRS SULLIVAN AND COATES. LINKING OF RESOURCES. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, February 22. Messrs Sullivan and Coates and Service chiefs arrived from New Zealand this afternoon and entrained tonight for Canberra, where they will discuss with the Federal Cabinet mutual problems of defence and supply and consider additional means of co-ordinating the New Zealand and Australian resources. Mr Sullivan said: “We have come here to range ourselves alongside the Australian Government and its people and see if we can link up our forces and resources in a Avay that will produce the best results. We have no doubt whatever that the people of Australia and the people of New Zealand z will meet the challenge of the moment \vith the same courage and spirit that has characterised the Anzac forces, not only in the present Avar, but in the war of 1914-18 also.” Mr Coates said: “The present threat to Australia is equally a threat to New Zealand. The Japanese attack on Darwin could not have had more profound effect on the people of New Zealand if it had been a part of New Zealand that had been bombed. This is not a time to ventilate political differences or raise side issues. The only thing that matters is to prepare and implement the most effective measures for meeting the challenge. It is the duty of us all to get into line and back up our national leaders to the utmost.”
