Body Found in Harbour. The body of a retired farmer, Mr Charles Pidgeon, was recovered from the Auckland harbour near the hulks off Kauri Point. Mr Pidgeon, who was a married man, aged 52, lived at a boardinghouse. He had been missing since last Tuesday.

Plans For Big Camp. Plans for the construction of a large military camp have been discussed between the Minister of Public Works and the Canterbury Builders’ and Contractors’ Association,' which has been asked to handle a building programme involving the allocation of the work. The work will require between 500 and 600 tradesmen. Fatal Mishap. / While acting as an official at the Otago athletic championships at the Caledonian Ground, Dunedin, on Saturday, Mr Charles W. Frye was struck with a hammer thrown by a competitor in the hammer-throwing event. Mi’ Frye was admitted to hospital with severe face and head injuries, and died at 11.50 p.m. Deceased was formerly prominent as a cross-country runner, and won the New Zealand title in 1920. Tea for Soldiers. The tea held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last night to entertain soldiers was largely attended. The ladies’ auxiliary of the St. Vincent de Paul Society were responsible for the arrangements. In the absence of the president, Mr L. Robinson, Mr P. Ryan presided. Musical items were enjoyed, and the lady workers were thanked on behalf of the guests. Interhouse Dance. A large number of men in uniform attended the dance held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday night by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association, at which there was a large attendance of the public. Mr G. Daubney was an efficient M.C., and Barnes’s Dance Band provided the music. The floor was in excellent order, and a splendid supper was served. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz competition were Mesdames Pauling and Harding. Evacuation Arrangements. Representatives of the E.P.S. organisation in the Wairarapa conferred this afternoon with Brigadier Green, of the Salvation Army, controller of the Accommodation and Evacuation Committee of the Wellington E.P.S. Detailed arrangements for a possible evacuation from Wellington were discussed and also the treatment of refugees. Representatives were present from all centres from Pahiatua southwards to Featherston and Martinborough. Popular Concert Party. The popularity of Mrs Miller Hope’s concert party was again demonstrated on Saturday night when the company received a very warm welcome at Opaki, the audience being most demonstrative in their applause. A new item on the programme, a tap dance by Misses Ola Curry and Nora McMullan proved to be very popular. After the performance the members were entertained at supper, and appreciation expressed to them for the excellent entertainment provided. Soldiers Entertained. Soldiers were entertained at Manaia cn Saturday night by a concert party organised by Mrs E. J. Rich. The programme' was well received. Several items were contributed by soldiers. The items included contributions by Miss Gill’s choir, a ballet under the leadership of Miss Enid Thompson, Mrs Te Tau’s concert party, a playette, vocal solos by Miss Doreen Jamieson and Mr R. G. Gilbert, a tap dance by Miss Olwyn Jones and community singing led by Mr McMinn. The accompanistes were Mrs I. Edwards and iMiss Vera Gambling. It is intended to I give these concerts fortnightly.
