DECISIVE FACTOR
COURAGE & SACRIFICE OF RED ARMY TRIBUTES PAID IN BRITAIN. ASSURANCES OF LOYAL SUPPORT (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11.10 a.m.) RUGBY, February 22. A message from Sir Stafford Cripps, Lord Privy Seal, was read at a Liverpool meeting commemorating the twenty-fourth anniversary of the Red Army. “The courage, determination and self-sacrifice shown by the Red Army, supported by all the people of Russia,” the message stated, “have been a decisive factor in turning back the German invaders and protecting our country from ‘Nazi attacks. We must make that point of common sacrifice a pledge for future co-operation in the
world.” Rear-Admiral Kharlamov, acting head of the Soviet Military and Naval Mission, acknowledged greetings from a London rally. The chairman of the meeting said the British people would work and strive for the soldiers of the Red Army, to quip them as though they were their cwn, which in truth they were. They pledged themselves to repay the debt the Red Army had placed on the whole of mankind. Speakers included representatives of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, France and Australia. There were also present representatives of China, Norway, Canada and Poland. Mr J. G. Winant (American Ambassador) sent a message of greeting.
