COUNTY AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA SOUTH MEETING OF COUNCIL. HOME GUARD UNIFORM FUND. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held yesterday, being presided over by Cr. F. Court. The treasurer reported a cr. balance of £11,359 17s Bd. It was decided to supply a further six white coats to Emergency Traffic Police. A committee consisting of the County Chairman, Crs. D. McGregor and A. E. Reid was appointed to deal with the matter of contributing funds with which to purchase uniforms for the Home Guard, with power to act. It was decided that the council procure metal from the Wainuioru River for work on the Tupurupuru-Te Wharau and Westmere highways, and to arrange with the Highway Board in regard to the spreading of the same. It was reported by the engineer that the contractor had commenced work on the Martinborough-Masterton Maih Highway. The Public Works Department wrote approving of the plans and specifications for the replacement of a new bridge over the Ahiaruhe Stream. It was decided not to call for tenders at present for this work.
