WAIRARAPA POWER BOARD
MEETING IN CARTERTON TODAY. REVENUE REPORTED SATISFACTORY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The revenue received from the sales of electricity in December and January, reported the secretary-manager, Mr George Brown, at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board, was less than the estimate, but taken in conjunction with the cost of power was, under existing circumstances, satisfactory. Load restrictions and daylight saving had an appreciable effect on revenue but this was compensated to a large extent by reduced power costs. The turnover in the trading department had kept up remarkably well. Mr Brown reported at length on lighting restrictions, which would have an appreciable effect on the board’s revenue. Kourarau had been declared a protected place. Good progress with the construction of the additional feeder capacity for Masterton borough was reported by the chief engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan. On February 9 a fire occurred at the Public Works Department’s sub-sta-tion at Moroa, completely destroying the 11,000 volts main switch cubicle, putting the sub-station out of action and interrupting the supply from South Carterton to Lake Ferry.
